Soak the nuts overnight in warm water to wake them up and signal it’s time to grow. 💧

Prepare a small pot, about the size of a 1-litre container, and fill it with good-quality, free-draining potting mix. No fertiliser is needed at this stage.

Plant each nut about 1 cm below the soil surface. Find the tiny white dot on the shell, called the micropyle. This is where the sprout will emerge. Place it facing sideways for best results. 🌰➡️🌱

Place the pot in a warm, sunny place. Keep the soil moist but never soggy. A quick finger check helps: if soil sticks heavily to your finger, it’s too wet.

Be patient. Macadamias are slow to sprout and may take several months. Once the sapling has a few sets of leaves and roots filling the pot, move it to a bigger container or into the garden.
